How do people with visual impairments navigate the streets and sidewalks downtown, and how can others help them feel safe and comfortable? Join us to hear about these experiences first-hand and simulate them by using special tools and relying on different senses. Following a short walk, you’ll learn helpful suggestions about how to offer people with visual impairments assistance as they walk through the city, and you’ll have an opportunity to engage in a discussion about the experience.
WALK LEADERS: Jean Bousquet, Heather Schey and Joelle Kanter
Jean Bousquet is an Orientation and Mobility Instructor, Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, DHS/ORS, and Heather Schey works for the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. Joelle Kanter is the former coordinator of Jane’s Walk Providence and has led several walks over the years.
