WALK DESCRIPTION

Faces lurk throughout downtown Providence, embedded in the architecture. On this tour, we’ll keep our necks craned upward and learn a bit about gargoyles while hunting for faces and beasts above our heads. This walk is certainly less of a lecture and more of an adventure and conversation… with gargoyles.

WALK LEADER: C.J. Opperthauser

C.J. Opperthauser is Training Manager at Grow Smart RI and Co-producer of Tour de Tentacle, an annual Lovecraftian bicycle adventure around Providence. He’s an inaugural CityWorks fellow, overseeing the implementation of a placemaking project on the Providence Riverwalk, and is a Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition board member. In the summers he gives kayak tours of downtown Providence, highlighting the area’s history and architecture.
